Hailing form the barren wastelands of Barrow-in-Furness, UK, Nick studied chemical sciences at Lancaster University (1996-1999) and then joined the research group of Prof. Bill Levason at the University of Southampton . He was awarded a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry in 2002 for synthetic and structural studies of coordination networks derived from the heavy p-block elements.
From 2002 to 2004 he was a post-doctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Bob West at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, focusing on the chemistry of N-heterocyclic silylenes and related species. He is currently studying the synthesis and reactivity of low-valent boron compounds as a post-doctoral fellow in the group of Prof. Alan H. Cowley at the University of Texas, Austin.
